Acne Treatment Facial Process
Acne Treatment Facial Process
The results you get from acne facial treatments depends on many different factors.
You need to understand you don’t get amazing results, or clear skin, with just one treatment.
As with any treatment, getting results from facials takes time and it takes commitment. To get ultimate results, you'll have to commit to a series of acne facials and continue with monthly or by-monthly facial maintenance. It’s exactly the same if you wanted to lose weight and get in shape or having your teeth cleaned. In either case, It takes time and needs long term commitment.
Typically, facials are scheduled once a week or once every other week for at least 10 sessions. But you can't rely on facials alone to get your skin clear. To keep the benefits going, you'll need to be consistent with your acne products and skin care routine at home.
The skill of the esthetician performing your treatment also plays a big role in the improvement you see. If your goal is to improve blemishes, you'll get the best results from a therapist who specializes in treating problem skin. Don't be shy to ask the esthetician about her/his experience.
If you have a few pimples or only break out occasionally, an acne facial may be right for you.
Acne facials work best for people with blackheads and whiteheads. If you primarily have non-inflammatory blemishes, facials can usually help improve the skin's appearance quickly.
During a facial treatment, the esthetician will manually poke blockages and comedones in a process called extractions. Although your esthetician won't be able to remove every single blackhead and whitehead during the first visit, enough should get done to give you some immediate improvement.
Although extractions remove existing non-inflammatory breakouts, they don't stop them from forming in the first place. Keep up with daily acne routing between facials, keep your skin in a sanitary environment and no picking.
Considerations
Not all cases of acne can or should be treated in salon settings. Sometimes acne is more than an aesthetic problem; it is a dermatologic condition that often requires medical treatment.
As a rule, you should see a dermatologist if you have moderate to severe acne.
If unsure whether your acne is moderate or severe, it is important to consult with a dermatologist. An esthetician is not a medical professional, and a facial used inappropriately by an inexperienced esthetician may end up causing more harm than good.
How a Facial Is Performed
During a facial, the esthetician begins by thoroughly cleansing the skin. Various masks, steam, and exfoliation may be incorporated into the treatment. The esthetician will use products to reduce excess oil, remove dead skin cells, soothe and hydrate and of course the most important part is thorough extractions. Your esthetician can also recommend products for at-home use accordingly.
If the skin is inflamed prior to a facial, extractions should be held to a minimum. No one, not even an esthetician, should attempt to extract deep inflamed blemishes like deep cysts.
If you decide to make facials a part of your skin care routine, remember you will get the best results if they are done regularly. Be sure to tell your esthetician about all topical and oral medications you are currently using to avoid unwanted reactions.
Strong exfoliation should be avoided if taking Accutane or using topical retinoids.
A Word Of Advice
Acne treatment should be approached externally and internally. If someone is really committed to taking control of their acne, the best way to approach it is to see a caring dermatologist, an experienced esthetician, use right products at home for your type of skin (not mish-mash of skin care products in your drawer), and making sure you are not allergic to any food you are eating daily, hygiene and last but not least, serious stress reduction by any avenue possible. Whether it’s meditation, relaxation, reading and exercising at least 30 minutes every day. Stress and anxiety could be a major cause of acne. One more thing, relaxing facials are a waste of your money and time. If your intention is to get a relaxing treatment, get a massage instead. Facials should be approached as a treatment for the health of your skin.
